Why?? is obviously about Rose the 1967 VW Beetle that went viral on social media and completely changed our lives. It's really specifically about the type of men who think that all things automotive should be made to suit them, or at least be masculine. Some people misinterpret it as being a 'man-hating' song - I think those people are either spectacularly stupid, feel called out, or lack basic comprehension skills - possibly all three 😂
This was one of the first songs I created when I started back into music and I was still too nervous to use my own voice. Plus I had it in my head that it had to be a male voice, so while I wrote the music and lyrics for the first version, I used an AI voice. This year I decided I wanted to re-record some of the older tracks to be more in keeping with my style and use my own voice (albeit heavily synthesised). While I wouldn't say I was 'embarrassed' by the original version, I just knew I could make it better. So I did.
