This is one of my absolute favourite fucking songs. I like to personify all of the cars we build - imagine who they would be if they were human - this was obviously written for the Matilda build. At the time I wrote it I had just identified who my birth father was, and I was exploring his Irish heritage, so I was reading a lot about these wild Irish-Australian women who were my great-great-grandmother and great, great aunties. And imagining what they might have been like - and how their DNA might have shaped me.
The song is about a beautiful but forbidden love that won't last.

Lyrics

In the misty twilight I am wandering
With a wildflower in my hand
And I see her dancing on the mountain
The green-eyed girl from the lowlands

Oh, Matilda the wildest green eyes
You might break my heart, but I don't care
I just wanna hold you for one more night
With flowers in your hair

Now it's midnight on the mountain
I lay with her on the grass
In the morning she'll be leaving
And I know I can't follow her back
I can't follow her back

Oh, Matilda the wildest green eyes
You might break my heart, but I don't care
I just wanna hold you for one more night
With flowers in your hair

Oh, Matilda the wildest green eyes
You might break my heart, but I don't care
I just wanna hold you for one more night
With flowers in your hair
